SalzAlpenSteig I - Lake chiemsee to lake königssee
Discover 125 km/78 mi of the first part of the SalzAlpenSteig (English: “Salt Alps Path”) from beautiful Lake Chiemsee to the picturesque Lake Königssee not only incredible and unique landscapes, but learn more about the salt springs, the salt deposits as well as about the history of the salt production. Expect to be overwhelmed by the amazing panoramic views, the characteristic Lake Chiemsee and Lake Königssee and be prepared to experience many regional traditions.
Day 1: Individual arrival in Prien
Welcome to the beautiful Chiemgau area. Enjoy your day at Lake Chiemsee and prepare yourself for the start of your fist hike tomorrow.
Day 2: Prien – Grassau Approx. 19 km/12 mi, 6 hours
The first stage of the salt path is a great way to start your hiking trip. The hike leads you through the towns Prien and Bernau at Lake Chiemsee with some amazing views of the Alps. The stage guides you through moorland forests above the villages Bernau and Rottau just until Grassau.
Day 3: Grassau – Ruhpolding Approx. 16 km/10 mi, 6 hours
After breakfast, you are transferred to Bergen via shuttlebus. Here, you take the cableway to the top of the Hochfelln, the panorama terrace in the Chiemgau area. During the 20-minute drive, you get a little preview what awaits you on today’s hike: panoramic views of the mountain ranges, villages and a glorious hike in the wonderful landscape of alpine pastures. The hiking path leads you through alpine meadows and sparse forests continuously downhill. Passing idyllic alpine pastures, you hike around the Reitstein (1.250 m). Just moments later, you reach the magical fairytale forest at Brand. Due to its many caves and grottos, it is not only for the young an impressive experience. Follow the signs in the direction of Ruhpolding, today’s destination.
Day 4: Ruhpolding – Inzell Approx. 15 km/9 mi, 5 hours
You can expect on the third stage of the salt path a diverse hike between Ruhpolding and Inzell in the Chiemgauer Alps. On the foothills of the Rauschberg (1645 m), you can reach the picturesque Taubensee on glorious hiking paths through montane forests. Moving on, you arrive at Inzell.
Day 5: Inzell – Bad Reichenhall Approx. 22 km/13.5 mi, 6 hours
The diverse and ambitious stage guides you through moorlands and meadows towards the waterfalls Weißbachfälle. Following the stream Weißbach, you reach Thumsee and follow the path to Bad Reichenhall.
Day 6: Bad Reichenhall – Bischofswiesen Approx. 16 km/10 mi, 5.5 hours
Today’s stage offers a lot of information and sights on the topic salt, a diverse landscape and beautiful views on the Alps. Visit the beautiful Old Salt Works in Bad Reichenhall and learn about the salt production. You can find brine pipelines and other “salty” sights along the hiking path. Following the paths and pass Hallthurm. After passing Hallthurm, the path continuous slightly uphill through the forest. Traverse the Schwarzgraben and Frechenbach and reach the Bischofswiesener Ache, which you follow until you reach Bischofswiesen.
Day 7: Bischofswiesen – Ramsau Approx. 18 km/11 mi, 6 hours
Follow convenient hiking paths along rivers and streams before steeper ascents lead you to romantic alpine pastures. This stage in the area Berchtesgadener Land offers almost everything every hiker is asking for.
Day 8: Ramsau – Lake Königssee Approx. 17 km/10.5 mi, 7.5 hours
Prepare yourself for the most eventful stage of this hiking trip. Follow the brine pipelines at the foothills of the Geröllberg (1162 m) and Söldenköpfl (1022 m). Above Ramsau is the bird sanctuary where you can enjoy breathtaking views. From Engedey begins the ascent to the Grünstein, a panoramic hiking path in the Berchtesgadener Alps. Follow the serpentine forest paths until the Grünsteinhütte, where you can enjoy amazing views on the Berchtesgadener Land again. Following the path downhill, you arrive in Schönau at the world famous Lake Königssee. Enjoy this beautiful scenery with the picturesque lake surrounded by mountains.
Day 9: DepartureToday you depart individually or extend your stay. We are pleased to offer some additional nights in Schönau.
