Enjoy a different concept of cycle routes: this tour is not about reaching a different destination, it is about getting to know a whole area. The Allgäu is one of the most picturesque regions in Bavaria. By cycling this region, you see why this area is as popular as it is. On 450 km/280 mi you can enjoy a comfortable ride while you discover the many sights and histories of this region such as the famous castle Neuschwanstein. Come with us on a journey through the Allgäu and explore this famous area.


Day 1: Individual arrival to Wangen and first stage Wangen – Weiler (approx. 60 km/37 mi)

Welcome to Wangen! The picturesque and lovingly restored village with its many historical buildings offers one of the most beautiful pedestrian walkways in the southern part of Germany. Your tour starts in the direction of Egloffs. After approaching Egloffs, the route is getting hillier and more demanding. You pass the villages Isny and Maierhöfen where you can find rugged gorges and mysterious waterfalls. On your way to today’s destination Weiler, you can explore some beautiful villages and spectacular lush green landscapes. Prepare yourself for the next day. Due to the high altitudes for the upcoming days the physical requirements are somewhat higher.

Day 2: Weiler – Fischen (approx. 60 km/37 mi)

Your tour starts with passing Simmerberg. After that, the route is getting winding and steeper. The villages Oberreute, Stiefenhofen, Genhofen and Oberstaufen are the next destinations. The Nagelfluhkette, a mountain range in the Allgäuer Alps, is on your side for the upcoming kilometers/miles. Following the railroad tracks, you reach the Großer Alpsee, a natural lake, the city Immenstadt and Bihlerdorf. Continuing in southern direction, you reach today’s destination Fischen.

Day 3: Fischen – Pfronten (approx. 80 km/50 mi)

Make yourself ready for the most demanding stage of this cycle tour. Starting in Fischen, you traverse the Iller River and follow the river until you reach Sonthofen. Just before the village Rettenberg, you pass a great ascent. After cycling uphill to Rottachspeicher, you are rewarded with an incredible view of the Allgäu. Prepare yourself for the most ambitious ascent from Habsichl to Unterjoch before cycling towards the national border to Austria and further to Tannheim. Following the river Ach, you will enter Germany again. The route is very diverse and beautiful. Enjoy the beautiful scenery while arriving in Pfronten.

Day 4: Pfronten – Kaufbeuren (approx. 80 km/50 mi)

Today’s route starts with amazing views: After passing some villages, you reach the castle ruin Hohenfreyberg and Eisenberg. Moving on, you reach Hopfen am See, which is also known as the “Riviera of the Allgäu”. Here you can find nice cafés and restaurants with panoramic views of the Ammergauer, Lechtaler, Tannheimer and Allgäuer Alps. Fields and meadows are your constant company for your route until Füssen and Forggensee, always with best views on the mountains. On the other side of the lake, you can see the royal castles Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau. Following the cycle path, you reach Marktoberdorf and today’s destination Kaufbeuren.

Day 5: Kaufbeuren – Ottobeuren (approx. 50 km/31 mi)

Starting your day with passing the old town of Kaufbeuren. Small ascents, paths through forests and meadows as well as scenic views on the mountain ranges lead you to today’s destination Ottobeuren. The cycle path shows you the village of Ottobeuren while you traverse it. Some of the most famous sights in Ottobeuren are the beautiful basilica and the monastery.

Day 6: Ottobeuren – Bad Wurzach (approx. 70 km/43 mi)

Leaving Ottobeuren, you follow the cycle path to Moosbach. Moving on, dirt tracks lead you to Bad Grönenbach with its landmark the “Hohe Schloss” (English: “High Castle”), which you can already see miles away. Following some ascents and descents, you will reach Leutkirch before you arrive in Bad Wurzach. Enjoy some time in Bad Wurzach and feel free to visit the beautiful castle in Bad Wurzach.

Day 7: Bad Wurzach – Wangen (approx. 60 km/37 mi)

The tour starts in Bad Wurzach and you are heading to Kißlegg. After passing Kißlegg, you can enjoy between Wolfegg and Waldburg some beautiful views on the Berner Alps. Following the cycle path, you can find some more amazing spots to enjoy the surroundings. On your way to your final destination Wangen, you can see just until Liechtenstein, Austria, Swiss and Lake Bodensee.

Day 8: Departure

Today you depart individually or extend your stay. We are pleased to offer some additional nights in Wangen.
